Section 19:Broadcast Services

Part 2:Vision Circuits - National

Subpart 4:Broadcast Network Tariff (BNT)

The Broadcast Network Tariff (BNT) is an agreement for the provision of uni-directional Analogue Presented PAL Vision Circuits or Serial Digital Video (SDV) Vision Circuits with a minimum term contract of 10 years.

BNT Circuits can be provided as:

(i) Compressed Analogue Presented PAL Vision Circuits (34Mbit/s) or,

(ii) Linear Analogue Presented PAL Vision Circuits (140Mbit/s) or,

(iii) Serial Digital Video (SDV) Vision Circuits (140Mbit/s)

Circuits comprise three elements:

(i)A BNT Local Access Circuit from the Customer's (send) premises into a local switching point, known as a Core Network Access Point (CNAP);

(ii)A main link between Core Network Access Points (Inter-CNAP Link);

(iii)A BNT Local Access Circuit from the second CNAP to the Customer's (receive) premises.

Where a BNT Local Access Circuit is not required (perhaps because the Customer already has a circuit into the CNAP) an access charge is levied which covers the cost of connecting another Vision Circuit to the switching equipment. The access charge is applied at the same rate as a Local Access Circuit of 0.5km Radial Distance (Connection Charge + Annual Rental).

CNAPs are classified as BT or Customer Premises CNAPs.

Up to three Analogue Presented Stereo Sound Circuits can be provided in association with any Analogue Presented PAL Vision Circuit.

Up to two Stereo Sound Circuits can be provided in association with any Serial Digital Video (SDV) Vision Circuit. This facility is dependent upon the terminal equipment used.

Where the service rented is critical to the Customers' business operation, BT recommends that the Customer requests a second diverse circuit, where available. A diverse circuit may be requested either at the same time as the primary circuit or at a later date. A premium for the diverse circuit will be charged in addition to the normal tariff.
