This service enables fixed line customers, subject to ELIGIBILITY below, to be able to send and receive SMS (text) messages to and from other suitably equipped fixed lines and most UK mobile networks.
Eligibility
To be able to send SMS (text) messages, customers must rent eligible business or residential fixed lines from BT, have a compatible telephone and subscribe to the Caller Display service.
Please note that the Caller Display Calling Feature is subject to availability.
This service is not available;
a) between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
b) via the operator, a Chargecard or Public Payphones.
c) to customers with the BT Pay&Call option (BT Pay&Call was withdrawn on 31st December 2009).
d) to customers with the In Contact Plus option.
e) when sent to UK roaming mobiles.
f) when sent to or from Featureline customers.
g) to customers with the Call Barring service who have selected barring of operator calls.
h) to customers who withhold their numbers on outgoing calls (unless they release their number prior to sending the SMS message).
Pricing Information
These prices apply for direct dialled texts from standard telephone lines (Business or Residential) and from Payphone lines when no Customer Option schemes are applicable.
* each text message is limited to 160 characters. Where a request is made to send a text which exceeds 160 characters the message will be delivered as multiple messages each up to 160 characters length. Each text will be charged at the rate appropriate to the destination telephone.
** Texts to premium rate services are not currently available.
Conditions
BT's `Terms and Conditions for Residential Service' or `Terms and Conditions for Business Service' apply.
The BT Text service is limited to 5000 text messages in any one hour period. Any customer who sends or receives texts in excess of this limit during this period will have the BT Text service deactivated from their line.
Additional Information
Discounts applicable to voice calls will also apply to BT Text unless stated otherwise.
